Lower prices for USA and many other countries
I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds it ironic that, as technology and global communications have improved, countries seem to have placed more and more trade barriers between themselves and their neighbours. And, as always, it’s consumers who pay the price. We either end up paying more for the things we need or, worse still, we aren’t able to get hold of them at all.
In simpler times (over a decade ago now) I set up Vitiligo Store in response to requests from vitiligo contacts around the world. The idea was that anyone with vitiligo – no matter where they lived – could use exactly the same supplements I used in my own vitiligo recovery. Ordering on the website was straightforward. And delivery to virtually any country globally was no problem.
Since then, unfortunately, decisions beyond anyone’s control (except for the politicians and bureaucrats responsible for them, you might say,) changed everything… That is, until now. Now, I’m glad to say, I have good news to share with you.
A quick bit of context
Three difficulties cropped up over recent years, which have frustrated me and many of my vitiligo friends alike. The first affected Vitiligo Store customers wanting to place orders from the European Union. The second threatened to drive product prices up for everyone. And the third penalised anyone with a delivery address in the United States.
But, after some creative thinking and loads of support from my friends at Xenca, I am happy to say that we have overcome all three obstacles. Meaning that Vitiligo Store products will be accessible worldwide once again and that product prices have either stayed the same or, in many cases, actually dropped significantly.
The most challenging of the problems by far has been putting all the necessary arrangements in place to give access (just as we used to have prior to Brexit) to anyone wanting to order the supplements for delivery to countries in the European Union. And, as I write, the finishing touches are still underway to finalise this. So I will save that topic for my next update… and focus in this post on my other two good news items.
Lower prices
Over the last few years the constantly rising costs of keeping Vitiligo Store as a viable shopping site, as well as providing support via TheVitPro.com blog, has been challenging. Which is why I eventually decided to remove the store’s shopping function (rather than put product prices up), keeping it as an information resource for vitiligo instead, and redirecting customers to the manufacturer Xenca’s own shopping site. (More background on this in a previous post.)
This change may not have seemed like the most elegant of solutions. But it meant that I could still cover website costs, whilst continuing to write the blog and offer support to the vitiligo community. And, for their part, Xenca has resolutely refused to increase their product prices for the past six years (despite their costs rising in line with every other business out there).
In addition, they recently updated their international pricing, meaning customers outside the UK and Europe can now expect lower prices than before. (The updated pricing is applied automatically at checkout. But please note that local import duties, taxes, or customs charges may or may not still apply when your order arrives, depending on local regulations where you live.)
USA
More recently, US tariffs were imposed on UK goods, meaning that an extra ten percent is being added automatically onto the cost of every item as soon as anyone living in the United States puts it into their shopping cart… Obviously an unwelcome surprise for anyone expecting to buy their products at the prices shown on the site.
To overcome this situation Vitiligo Store is absorbing the cost of these tariffs by giving a ten percent discount on all orders placed by customers in the USA. So, when you check out your order you will see the US tariff being added but then you will also see the discount cancel this out. To keep things simple, you don’t need to enter a discount code. The discount will be applied automatically to all US orders for as long as the tariff remains in place.
A final note
I am not, and never have been, a professional marketer of supplements for vitiligo. I am just someone who struggled with vitiligo all my life… Until I was fortunate enough to stumble on an effective combination of nutritional supplements (that were, by the way, never even intended for any particular health condition). The repigmentation I experienced as a result of using these supplements was dramatic and – for the past sixteen years – sustained.
The Vit Pro blog was my way of sharing my good fortune, relating my experiences and providing the kinds of vitiligo information, awareness and support that was never available to me when I was struggling to cope with my own condition. It is very much a labour of love and something I continue to do in my own time and at my own expense.
Vitiligo Store, a later creation, was the result of blog readers asking me where they could get hold of the same supplements I was using. So the idea was never a commercial one. It was just a way of enabling others to get the same results as I did from using these specific products, and covering my costs in the process. That motivation hasn’t changed, even if the way of achieving it has had to adapt to a changing world.
Look out for part two of this blog containing good news for my friends in the EU… Coming soon!
